Capture the moment

The photography project is for youth who wish to document life through pictures. From capturing artistic stills and patterns to landscapes and portraits, there are many styles of photography. Learn how to take amazing photos and share them with the world.

Youth who participate in 4-H Photography projects develop life skills that include responsibility, teamwork, community service, a positive attitude, critical thinking, problem solving and a sense of self-worth. Ownership of a camera is not required to participate in the 4-H Photography project, cell phone cameras may be used.

Learn about:

  • Safe handling of photography equipment
  • Managing lighting and shadows
  • Composing your best shot
  • Using the environment and color expressions in photos
  • Choosing a point of view

Participant outcomes:

  • Members will learn how to build a portfolio.
  • Members will learn how to stage their best shots.
  • This project will result in a portfolio members can exhibit or display.

Projects:

  • Photography 1: Photography Basics- Begin your photography skills with activities in keeping steady, managing lighting and shadows, point of view, and telling a story with great photos!
  • Photography 2: Next Level Photography- Continue your photography skills and build your portfolio with activities to help you master lens selection, photos of reflections, how to use the environment in photos and color expressions.
  • Photography 3: Mastering Photography- Finish your photography portfolio with activities in focus, lighting challenges, still life photography and freezing the moment!

Cloverbud Photography Opportunities

Youth between 5 and 7 can participate in our 4-H Cloverbud program! This non-competitive program introduces young children to the world of Photography while focusing on fundamentals.
