About Team Horse Power

Teens selected for Team Horse Power will learn leadership, communication, and teaching skills and techniques for demonstrating horsemanship skills.

Teens must exhibit a sincere interest in the equine industry, have good communication skills, and the ability to manage their time effectively. The teen must be at least 14 years old and have successfully completed Level I and Level II of the 4-H Horsemanship Skills Program. Applicants who have not passed Level II may apply but must complete this requirement prior to the Team Horse Power Annual Meeting and Training Weekend. The teen must also have the recommendation of one 4-H leader, the support of the county extension educator and their parent or guardian’s permission. Job Description

The selection process will consist of a written application that includes a parent or guardian signature and recommendations from the local extension educator and a 4-H leader. In addition, you will be observed and evaluated as you participate in the Team Horse Power Annual Meeting and Training Weekend. Individual interviews will also be conducted during the initial training. Some or all of the participants may be invited back for a second phase of training. Scholarship 

Team Horse Power members have the opportunity to apply for a scholarship. Applicant must be at least a 2nd year Team Horse Power member in good standing, an active participant in the program, and fulfill all the expectations of the program.  Candidates should demonstrate strong leadership skills and the ability to produce programs with the team and individually. Participation and evaluations throughout the year will be taken into account when applications are reviewed.  Two scholarships will be awarded based on applications and fulfillment of obligations to the program, previous winners of this scholarship are not eligible to apply.  Funding for the scholarship varies from year to year and is contingent upon fund availability. 

The award amount (up to $500 each) will be determined by the PA 4-H Horse Program Development Committee.
