“Farm to table” is at the heart of these contests as youth learn about the economy, versatility and nutritional value of poultry meat.

About BBQ contests

Chicken and turkey barbecue events provides youth the opportunity to demonstrate and teach the proper skills and techniques to use in preparation and use of poultry meat. Participants will acquire knowledge and improve their understanding of the economy, versatility and nutritional value of poultry meat, and its relationship to human nutrition and health. 

Challenging 4-H’ers on their overall knowledge and skill set within the poultry industry provides real world experience to develop communication skills, build self-confidence, and an opportunity to remain relevant in the subject matter.  Contact your County Educator for more information.

Chicken BBQ

The Chicken BBQ contest will encourage youth to develop their knowledge of the poultry broiler industry.  The top contestant (age 14 and older) will receive a paid trip to the National 4-H Poultry and Egg Conference in Louisville, Kentucky to represent Pennsylvania in the National 4-H Competition if they score at the blue merit ribbon level. The National 4-H Poultry and Egg Conference recognizes senior 4-H members who have excelled in their state 4-H poultry learning activities.  The overall objective is to offer national level activities and contests designed to introduce participants to poultry and the poultry industry. Life skills are also learned through preparation for the various contests. The conference also introduces the participants to careers in the poultry and allied industries.

Turkey BBQ
