For the fifth consecutive year, Penn State's Dairy Science Club was recognized for their outstanding activities, participation and publications.
Penn State's Dairy Science Club members, recognized nationally for their chapter activities.
Penn State's Dairy Science Club was named the Outstanding Chapter for the sixth consecutive year at the American Dairy Science Association Student Affiliate Division (ADSA-SAD) annual meetings held in Knoxville, Tennessee, from June 23-26. The award is based on an annual report of chapter activities, participation in the ADSA Student Affiliate Division, club publications and website. The meeting attracted more than 100 students and their advisors along with more than 1700 professionals and guests from the US, Mexico, Canada, and beyond.
Penn State was represented in Knoxville by seven undergraduate students, including Charlotte Auman, Spring Mills, PA; Douglas Boop, Millmont, PA; Isaac Clements, Prattsburgh, NY; Dylan Dietz, McVeytown, PA; Zane Itle, Loretto, PA; Daniel Kitchen, Danville, PA; and Michael Morgan, Shirleysburg, PA. They were accompanied by club advisers Dr. Chad Dechow and Dale Olver.
During the meetings students participated in professional development, educational and networking events along with multiple competitions including dairy quiz bowl and paper and poster competitions. Students also had the opportunity to attend symposia, oral sessions and poster sessions presented by professional members of the organizations.
Penn State's quiz bowl team of Doug Boop, Isaac Clements, Daniel Kitchen, and Michael Morgan placed second overall, and the club scrapbook earned third place. Charlotte Auman, Dylan Dietz, and Zane Itle represented the club in the undergraduate presentation contests.
Students earning ADSA certificates for outstanding scholarship included Emma Brenengen, Middletown, MD; Shoshana Brody, Baltimore, MD; Caitlin Cullum, Airville, PA; Rebecca Dent, Berwick, PA; Dylan Dietz; Jill Heffner, Pine Grove, PA; Curtis Hershey, Bethel, PA Abigail Jantzi, Clymer, NY;, Kaylee Kishbaugh, Shickshinny, PA; Hunter Long, Annville, PA; Katie-Scarlett Loya, Washington, PA; Kelly MacRae, Grove City, PA; Zane Merkel, Lebanon, PA; Garrett Morgan, Paonia, CO; Michael Morgan; Katie Sondericker, Attica, NY; Stephanie Takitch, Latrobe, PA; and Andi Wood, Himrod, NY.
The students attended the meetings as members of the American Dairy Science Association Student Affiliate Division (ADSA-SAD). The ADSA-SAD is a division of the parent organization that works to develop leadership and promote scholarship among students interested in the dairy industry, and to encourage students toward careers in dairy science. There are more than 600 undergraduate student members in ADSA. ADSA was established in 1906 as a scientific and educational association to serve the dairy and dairy-related industries. It facilitates the discovery, application and dissemination of dairy science knowledge and information.
