Alexander N. Hristov, Ph.D., P.AS., distinguished professor of dairy nutrition in Penn State’s Department of Animal Science, was named Fellow of the American Dairy Science Association at its annual meeting in Kentucky last week.

Hristov has a B.S. from the Higher Institute of Zoo Engineering and Veterinary Medicine (Stara Zagora, Bulgaria) and a Ph.D. in animal nutrition from the Bulgarian Academy of Agricultural Sciences.
The ADSA Fellow Award recognizes Dairy Foods division and Production division members of ADSA who have rendered distinguished service to the dairy industry over 20 or more years. Recipients must have made exceptional contributions to the dairy industry and have been an ADSA member for at least 20 years.
In addition to receiving the Fellow award, Hristov was also inducted into the 2025 Class of the Journal of Dairy Science Club 100 which recognizes individuals who have authored or co-authored 100 or more publications in the journal. The award was initiated in 2017 to celebrate the 100th volume of the Journal of Dairy Science, the leading dairy research journal worldwide

Hristov said, "I am honored to be recognized by ADSA. It is a tribute not just to the research that I do, but also to the hard-working and dedicated colleagues and graduate students with whom I work."
In addition to working as a research scientist in his native Bulgaria, Hristov has worked at the USDA Agricultural Research Service Dairy Forage Research Center in Madison, WI, and at the Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada's Lethbridge Research and Development Center. Before joining the Penn State faculty in 2008, he was on the faculty of the Department of Animal and Veterinary Science at the University of Idaho. Hristov's research focuses on protein and amino acid nutrition of dairy cattle and mitigation of nutrient losses and gaseous emissions from dairy operations.
