The swine production and management course, offered every fall, teaches students about pig production and how physiology influences production, efficiency.

This course combines biology, nutrition, reproduction, health, and welfare of pigs with business management, operations management, quality assurance, and marketing. Field Trips and hands-on labs at Penn State Swine Center expose students to hands-on application of classroom concepts.

Students that take the swine production class will learn to work as a team to create and manage a project farm. The project farm allows students to not only practice what they learn in class, but also practice their own previous knowledge of animal husbandry and business and learn collaborative skills important for career success in any field.
