Manage Your Resources

Members will learn consumer education and management activities that teach them basic resource management. The projects are designed to teach responsible consumer skills to today’s youth which appeals to them. 

Youth who participate in 4-H Consumer and Family Science projects develop life skills that include responsibility, teamwork, community service, a positive attitude, critical thinking, problem solving and a sense of self-worth.

  • Money management
  • Babysitting skills
  • The principles of nutrition.
  • Comparison shopping
  • Budgeting
  • Independent living

Participant outcomes:

  • Members will learn how to prepare a household budget.
  • Members will learn how to care for young children.
  • This project will prepare members for living on their own.

Youth interested in Consumer and Family Science can explore careers like:

  • Finance
  • Child Care Provider
  • Early Childhood Education Teacher
  • Banker

Projects:

  • Babysitting - Members will learn how to keep children safe and happy, how to solve problems, how to talk to parents, how to be better prepared as a future parent, how to make a career choice in child care and how to manage money and reach goals.
  • Finance - Kids and Kash Issues 1-4 - Teaches youth to become a wise consumer.
  • On My Own and OK - Lessons for children who must stay home alone after school.

Cloverbud Consumer and Family Science Opportunities:

Youth between 5 and 7 can participate in our 4-H Cloverbud program! This non-competitive program introduces young children to the world of Consumer and Family Science while focusing on fundamentals.
