Mission
The mission of the Pennsylvania 4-H State Council is to be the role models of leadership and young professionals for the Pennsylvania 4-H program while also serving as spokespeople for the program.
Vision
A world in which youth and adults learn, grow, and work together as catalysts for positive change.
Core Areas of Focus
State Council consists of three core areas of focus: leadership development, event planning, and promotion and advocacy of the Pennsylvania 4-H program.
Leadership
- Council members serve as role models in teaching their peers and younger members about leadership.
- Council members will also participate in leadership skill development to grow in their own abilities.
Event Planning
- State Council plays a key role in state-level events, particularly State Leadership Conference (SLC) and SLC Junior.
Promotion & Advocacy
- A major function of the team is the promotion of the Pennsylvania 4-H program.
- They share their 4-H story with:
- government officials of all levels
- civic groups or agricultural industry groups
- PennState Ag Sciences and University officials
- the media
- the general public
Year at a Glance
County visit requests and assignments can be expected to take place all year long, and business meetings are held monthly.
- Fall – Interviews & begin training
- Winter – Installation at State Leadership Conference, training
- Spring – State contests, Capital Days, preparation begins for SLC and SLC Junior
- Summer – State contests, Ag Progress Days
- Fall – SLC Junior, state contests
- Winter – Farm Show, host State Leadership Conference
