Project Report from Bucks County 4-H Ambassador Cara Arnoldi

While Coronavirus makes it difficult to meet and do projects together, I've been expressing to my club that skills learned in 4-H are practiced every day in a variety of ways.

I've taken at least five food projects over the years, and all the skills I've learned have showed up during quarantine. I've been baking desserts for family and friend's birthdays, such as cupcakes and cookies, and I've been cooking a variety of different dinners, from chicken lo mein to squash tacos. Taking on two meals a week has made life much easier for my mother, who continues to update her teaching styles from home to fit the needs of her students.

I've also kept up with my sewing, though a little differently than first expected. I've put my original sewing project aside for next year, hoping that things will be a little more open by then. In place of this ensemble, I've started a completely new project: a wrap skirt, a white tunic blouse, an up-cycled jean purse, and a hat. Because I don't have much to do, it is already almost finished within two months! I plan on making a couple more purses and getting back to my original project as soon as possible.

I've also completed my Diamond Clover Project during this time: sewing over 70 masks for the families of my neighborhood. This was a huge project I chose to complete, and during isolation I found a way to complete it.

I've even gone back to skills from the past, such as shooting sports. I haven't picked up my air pistol in a couple years, but I finally had time to get some target practice in the past couple weeks, and boy, I missed it.

Even projects I didn't originally enjoy, such as bracelet making, have gotten into my schedule. I've completed six string bracelets in my free time while watching TV. It is such an easy way to pass the time.

In the next few weeks, I'll be documenting my club's at-home-projects in a scrapbook to share what they've been doing to pass the time. For now, Chal-Brit has been doing many virtual meetings to keep in touch while we prepare for Round-Up!
