These Pennsylvania County Drainage Class tables are used to determine the Runoff Potential factor for the Pennsylvania Phosphorus Index. Surface runoff potential is based on the USDA-NRCS Drainage Class.
Identification of crop management units (CMUs) or fields located within Special Protection watersheds is required by Part A of the P Index.
"Obtaining a P Source Coefficient for the Pennsylvania Phosphorus Index" provides a brief background on why this factor was included in the Pennsylvania P Index. Most importantly for Act 38 planning, specific guidance is provided for the timing and procedure of manure sampling in order to obtain an accurate and representative value from manure analysis.
