Alli Capri Jobe has been named an Assistant Teaching Professor of Beef Production in Penn State's Department of Animal Science and will join the faculty on July 1. A 2023 Animal Science graduate of Penn State, she has served as a Graduate Assistant with Dr. Tara Felix, Ph.D., associate professor and beef extension specialist, receiving her Master's Degree in May. Her thesis focused on factors impacting cow-calf production efficiency.
Rebecca Krisher, Ph.D., head of the Department of Animal Science, said, "We welcome Alli Jobe to our faculty. Her extensive background in the beef industry, and her passion for sharing her knowledge and experience with others will be valuable as she becomes part of our Extension Livestock team."
Her responsibilities will include helping to develop a strong extension program in beef production and management, focusing on small to medium-sized beef producers. As an assistant teaching professor of beef production, she will teach undergraduate courses in beef management, breeding evaluation and selection, and will coach the undergraduate livestock judging team.
She will also develop a new course on livestock handling, including hands-on laboratories at the Animal Science farm facilities.
Jobe grew up in Greensburg, PA, on a small cow-calf family operation, and recalls, "As soon as I could walk and hold my own, my parents put a halter in my hand. Since the age of five, I have been raising and exhibiting livestock, including cattle, pigs, sheep, and goats."
As an undergraduate at Penn State, she lived and worked at the Beef and Sheep Center, was active in the Block and Bridle Club and Collegiate Cattlewomen, and competed as a member of the 2023 Livestock Judging team.
She called her undergraduate experience "rewarding," helping her ever-growing passion for the livestock industry, and helping her chose to remain at Penn State to pursue a Master's Degree with Dr. Felix.
About her fulltime position, Jobe said, "I have always been passionate about cattle production and have truly enjoyed broadening my understanding of all areas of the beef industry. However, mentoring students through the judging team and undergraduate coursework has reinforced an equally strong passion for teaching and mentorship. Watching students develop confidence, industry knowledge, and professionalism has been incredibly rewarding." She looks forward to continuing to invest in student growth and the future of the livestock industry.
