May 15 Conference Provides Tips on Necessary Skills

Penn State Extension Dairy Team and the Center for Dairy Excellence are sponsoring a conference to offer tips on essentials to enhance careers.

Penn State's Extension Dairy Team in cooperation with the Center for Dairy Excellence is offering an interactive professional development opportunity that will provide valuable resources for all agribusiness and extension educators who are in a sales or service role.

Scheduled for Wednesday, May 15 at the Penn State Visitor Center & Ag Arena, 800 E. Park Avenue, State College, this one-day conference will provide an in-depth look at working with all kinds of clients, as well as highly interactive breakout sessions to improve communication and service with clients.

The program begins with 9 a.m. registration and concludes at 3 p.m.  Registration deadline is May 14, but for those registering by May 1, there is a discounted price of $40.  Full registration is $50.

The morning session on working with different customer types will be led by Mary Kay Williams, M.Ed., S.P.H.R., Penn State Corporate Learning.

Afternoon speakers and topics include:

* Meeting Facilitation - Lisa Holden and Rob Goodling, Penn State University, focusing on how to wade through team dynamics.

* Email Etiquette - Kevin Sliman, College of Education Marketing Communication Specialist, discussing how to effectively communicate by setting the appropriate tone, using the correct format and selecting suitable wording.

* Express Yourself: How to Give the Presentation of a Lifetime - Heather Weeks, Penn State Extension, offering techniques to engage an audience regardless of the presentation topic.

* Interpreting the New Farm Bill - J. Craig Williams, Gary Hennip, Penn State Extension, and Alan Zepp, Center for Dairy Excellence, giving an overview on changes in the farm bill that concern dairy farmers.

Attendees will select two afternoon sessions: 12:30 - either Meeting Facilitation or Email Etiquette; 1:30 - either  Express Yourself or Interpreting the New Farm Bill.
