Middle Managers Conference Offers Skills, Discussion and Networking

Sponsored by the Penn State Extension Dairy Team, the conference will feature a keynote speaker, breakout sessions and a panel discussion.

      The Penn State Extension Dairy Team's Middle Managers Conference will help managers and mid-level supervisors develop practical skills to make their dairy farms more successful businesses.

      Scheduled for November 6 at the Best Western Premier Central Hotel and Conference Center, Harrisburg, the conference features a keynote speaker, breakout sessions and panel discussions to allow for maximum discussion and learning.  It will be held from 9 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.

      Featured speaker will be Brett Reinford, Reinford Farm, Juniata County, a partner in a multi-generational, multi-unit enterprise, including operation of a methane digester that provides for the farms needs with excess electricity being sold to PPL. Reinford Farm has 12 full time employees, milks 440 cows, and farms 900 acres.

      This highly interactive program will focus on building for the future with real-world examples of herd management, the newest reproduction technologies, and practical information for making sound decisions and communicating with others. The format provides for networking with peers.

      Breakout Sessions include:

* Key Performance Indicators for Middle Managers: What does "good" look like? Darren McGee, Elanco, sponsored by Elanco

* Emerging Reproductive Technologies: How to decide what's best for your dairy? Shane St. Cyr, SCR Dairy Inc. and Rob Goodling, Penn State Extension, sponsored by SCR Dairy Inc.

* Selling Your Ideas with Dollars and Sense. Tim Beck and Heather Weeks, Penn State Extension

      A dairy producer panel will focus on communicating with the boss, and will be moderated by Jeff Harding, Elanco.

      This program is eligible for 2 SmartStart credits from AgChoice Farm Credit.
