Preparing for the Minor

Recommendations of courses and activities to complete during your first four semesters prior to enrolling in the Equine Science Minor.

This information is intended to answer questions about activities and courses you might take prior to official enrollment in the Equine Science Minor.  Remember, you must first complete more than 27 credits or declare a major, and you must earn a minimum grade of a C for all courses in the minor.

Semester 1

Courses to take: 

  • AN SC 107 (FA/SP)

Things to do:

  • Email Molly Martin ( mjf217@psu.edu ) and ask to be added to the Canvas Equine Minor Group as a pre-minor
  • Consider finding a club or activity you enjoy.  Equine-related choices include:
    • Block & Bridle Equine Committee
    • Collegiate Horsemen’s Association at Penn State
    • Penn State Equine Research Team
    • Penn State Equestrian Team
    • Penn State Dressage Team
    • Penn State Western Team

Semester 2

Courses to take:

  • AN SC 217 (FA/SP)
  • AN SC 117 (SP)

Things to do:

  • Continue your club/activity

Semesters 3-4

Courses to take:

  • AN SC 201 (FA/SP) – prerequisite for AN SC 327
  • Catch up on any courses not previously taken

Things to do:

  • Become a committee chair or officer in your club/activity 
  • Schedule an appointment with Dr. Ann Macrina ( alm106@psu.edu ) if you wish to discuss the Equine Science Minor.
