Penn State's Department of Animal Science will host an Open House for high school seniors on October 25 and 26.

High school seniors are invited to learn about Penn State's Animal Science major by attending a Student Open House sponsored by the Department of Animal Science at Penn State. Those who visit campus will have the opportunity to attend a class, tour campus and the farms, and will learn about the admissions process.

The Open House will be held on Wednesday and Thursday, October 25 and 26, at University Park and is open to any high school senior who is considering continuing their education at Penn State in the Animal Sciences major. Participants will stay overnight with a responsible students in campus dormitories and will eat in the dining commons. During the two-day open house, high school students get to interact with student leaders, faculty, and attend a class. Eight undergraduate student clubs are helping to host the Open House and will have information about the variety of activities available through the clubs.

Dr. Terry Etherton, Head of the Department of Animal Science, said, "Our annual Open House gives prospective students a wonderful and unique opportunity to get an in-depth perspective of our Animal Sciences programs, to visit the campus and to learn about the University admission process. Those who have participated in the past have found the visit to be extraordinarily helpful as they make their decisions about attending college."

Students will be welcomed to campus by student club members and advisors with a pizza party at the Snider Ag Arena on Wednesday evening, beginning at 6 p.m. This social time offers a chance to get to know each other as well as students who will be hosting.

A full day of activities, including attending class, touring the campus with Ag Advocates, and meeting with College and Department representatives is scheduled for Thursday, with the program concluding at 4:00 p.m. after a visit to the Penn State Creamery.

There is no cost to participants, with all meals being provided. Students are asked to bring their sleeping bags and towels.

Registration is required to allow for assignment with student hosts. Additional information is available at: http://animalscience.psu.edu/events/prospective-student-open-house.
