Lorenzoni, D.V.M., Ph.D., is Assistant Professor of Poultry Science and Avian Health; will provide leadership in avian health extension programs.

Alberto Gino Lorenzoni, D.V.M., Ph.D., has joined Penn State's Department of Animal Science Faculty as Assistant Professor of Poultry Science and Avian Health. His primary responsibilities will be in avian health-related matters, and he will assume a leadership role for the College of Agricultural Sciences avian health extension programs.

Lorenzoni received both his Bachelor in Veterinary Sciences (B.Sc.) and Doctor in Veterinary Medicine (D.V.M.) degrees from the Universidad de Chile, Chile; his M.Sc. in animal science was awarded by McGill University, Canada; and he received his Ph.D. in poultry science from the University of Arkansas.

Dr. Terry Etherton, Head of the Department of Animal Science, said, "It is a great pleasure to welcome Gino to our faculty and I look forward to his leadership in Pennsylvania's large and very important poultry industry. His extensive avian health background will be extremely valuable to the entire industry."

Lorenzoni said, "I am very fortunate to have the privilege to support the agricultural community through Penn State. I am looking forward to getting to know the poultry industry in the Pennsylvania along with its challenges and opportunities. I will work hard to help the entire poultry industry and promote best practices in avian health."

Most recently, he worked for Anitox as Global Technical Director & Head of Latin America commercial operations and prior to that as Technical Services Director. Anitox Corporate headquarters are near Atlanta, Georgia, with offices around the world. He also worked for Elanco as Technical and Commercial Manager for Poultry in Mexico, Central America, Caribbean, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia and Venezuela and as Technical Manager for Central America, Caribbean, Perú, Ecuador, Colombia and Venezuela.

His prior work experience also includes being Product Manager, Probiotics Biomin, Austria; DVM consultant to Peterson Farms (USA); and Head Poultry Veterinarian at "Huevos Santa Luz" poultry farm, Chile.

A member of Phi Kappa Phi honor society, he received a Certificate of Excellence for graduate student presentations at the Poultry Science Association meeting in 2008, and was named the Cobb-Vantress Scholarship "World Technical School" spring student ambassador.

Lorenzoni has been an invited lecturer at McGill University, Canada and was an assistant professor at the Universidad Santo Tomas, Chile. He taught several production courses at McGill University and at the Universidad de Chile. He has made presentations in Peru, Brazil, Thailand, Mexico, Canada and the United States and has co-authored numerous publications on avian nutrition and health.
