Penn State's Department of Animal Science's Lisa Holden, associate professor of dairy science, and Virginia Ishler, extension specialist, traveled to Wuqiang County, China, to hold a three-day educational workshop in December. They taught at Hengshui dairy farm, about four hours south of Beijing. There were approximately 40 people in attendance, representing the senior managers operating several dairies under Fuyuan Farms. In addition to classroom lectures, they did some hands-on activities in the barn. Holden did evaluation of parlor performance and Ishler did particle size separation of different rations. The objective of this training was to tie together human resource management with dairy herd management. This was a follow-up to a training in October.
