Pennsylvania Dairy Hall of Fame Inductees
Posted: January 13, 2014
Congratulations to the Department of Animal Science's Dr. Larry Specht, professor emeritus, and Dr. Carl Brown, alumnus, for being inducted into the Pennsylvania Dairy Hall of Fame during the 2014 Pennsylvania Farm Show in Harrisburg.
Dr. Specht was recognized for his career as a dairy extension educator and sire analyst, having developed the Sire-Son and Prefix reports first published in the 1970s. His work was important in improving genetics throughout the dairy industry and remains the basis for modern sire summaries. He is the creator and author of the Specht Report. Specht is a National Dairy Shrive Living Pioneer and received the All-American Dairy Show Image Award, having served as treasurer and committee member for the Show.
Dr. Brown, sales and nutrition director for F.M. Brown's Sons, Inc., is a dedicated Berks County and dairy industry volunteer. He organized the first All-American Dairy Show Junior Dairy Management Contest, an important part of the show to this day. He is a past All-American Board member, serves on the PennAg Industries board of directors and volunteers with both the Berks County Farm-City Council and the Berks Agricultural Resource Network.
Their recognition is well-deserved for their many and lasting contributions to the dairy industry.
