Prospective Students Invited to Penn State's Department of Animal Science Open House

Posted: September 25, 2013

The Open House will be held October 23-24 at the University Park Campus and will enable prospective students to attend a class, tour the campus and learn to know faculty and students.

If you're a high school senior and are considering attending Penn State as an Animal Science major, you're invited to attend a Prospective Student Open House hosted by Penn State's Department of Animal Science on Wednesday and Thursday, October 23-24 at the University Park campus.

Dr. Terry Etherton, Head of the Department of Animal Science, said, "Our annual Open House provides an outstanding opportunity for prospective students to visit the University Park campus and gain an in-depth perspective of our undergraduate programs in Animal Science. During the two-day visit, high school seniors will meet and interact with both student leaders and faculty, getting a firsthand view of the college experience while learning about the University admission process."

Students will be welcomed to campus by student club members and advisors with a pizza party at the Snider Ag Arena on Wednesday evening, where they will meet other prospective students and the undergraduates who will be hosting them. Students will be paired with a responsible student, and will stay overnight in on-campus housing. There is no cost to participants, with all meals being provided, including one lunch in the dining commons.

Thursday's full day of activities include attending a class, touring the campus and Department farms, and learning about the wide range of courses offered in the Animal Science major. The program concludes at 4:00 p.m. Thursday after a visit to the Penn State Creamery.

Jana Peters, Animal Sciences Advising Coordinator, said, "This campus visit is an excellent way for high school seniors to discover more about the animal science major, learning directly from both faculty and students." She said previous attendees at the Open House have found it to be helpful in making their decisions about college.

Co-hosting the event will be the Block & Bridle Club, Dairy Science Club, Poultry Science Club, Penn State Equine Research Team (PSERT), Collegiate Horsemen at Penn State (CHAPS), Reproductive Research Team, and Small and Exotic Animal Club (SEAC).

Registration is required by October 16 to allow for assignment with student hosts. A form is available at: http://animalscience.psu.edu/events/prospective-student-open-house.
