Penn State Block and Bridle Club Ready for a Busy Fall Semester

Posted: September 3, 2012

B & B has a full slate of fall activities, beginning with a Welcome Back Picnic for new and returning students.

The Penn State Block & Bridle Club is off to a busy start for the fall semester, beginning with a Welcome Back Picnic in Pavilion One at Sunset Park on September 6 at 5:30 p.m. Any student interested in joining the club is encouraged to attend the picnic, where they can mingle with current Block and Bridle members. Prospective members are invited to meet current members in the ASI parking lot at 5:15 to walk together to Sunset Park.

Another important upcoming event is the Ag Hill Olympics, which will take place on September 23. Block and Bridle members will compete against other agricultural clubs at this annual event.

On October 6, club members will disperse to help with both the Keystone International Livestock Exposition Judging Contest in Harrisburg, and the Intercollegiate Meats Judging Contest in Wyalusing.

Upon returning from these events, club members will focus their efforts on preparing for the Block and Bridle Club Calf Sale on October 13 at the Ag Arena. High quality prospect steers and heifers will be judged and then sold. The event also features a Fun Auction, where baked goods, crafts, and donations from agribusinesses will be sold to the highest bidders to benefit the club. This entire event is managed and run by students in the club, making it one of our more intense, yet most rewarding activities.

Other events to look forward to this fall include the Blood for Bats collections that will be held regularly to collect cattle blood for the Philadelphia Zoo's vampire bat colony. Another event that occurs several times this semester is mare groomings at the horse barns, in which members with an equine interest can get some hands-on interaction with the mares.

The Block and Bridle Club will be holding its regular Meat Sale fundraiser this fall to support its many activities.

All in all, the club is ready to kick off a great semester full of activities!
