Eleventh Annual OsteoChallenge Raises over $700 for the National Osteoporosis Foundation

Penn State Dairy Science Club Holds 11th Annual OsteoChallenge to raise funds for National Osteoporosis Foundation.

The Penn State Dairy Science club raised $717 for the National Osteoporosis Foundation at its 11th annual OsteoChallenge 5K run/walk on September 30 which also raised awareness about the fight against osteoporosis. The Foundation promotes education, research, and prevention for the disease which affects more than 10 million Americans.

Twenty-eight students, professors, family and friends joined Dairy Science Club members for the event held at the Dairy Research and Education Center. Zach Stephens, Clearfield, had the best time in the men's division and overall, and Heidi Musshafen, Mansfield, won the women's division. Musshafen, a senior in Ag Systems and Environmental Resource Management, served as chair of last year's OsteoChallenge.

Alyssa Dietrich, Strausstown, chaired the event and Vicky Bem, Union City, served as co-chair.  

Heather Wasson, Alternate Pennsylvania State Dairy Princess, attended the race to promote the benefits of dairy products and how they can prevent osteoporosis.

The Dairy Science Club thanks the sponsors including Mid-Atlantic Dairy Association, Land O' Lakes, PennAg Industries, and Allied Milk Producers.

Food was donated by Schneider's Dairy, Apeeling Fruit, Inc.,Weis Markets, and Giant Food Stores. Clover Farms dairy donated prizes.
